The installation starts inside.
Cornerstone Homes is building a new home on a 1.09 acre lot in a sunny valley just northwest of Boulder, CO in the prestigious foothills community of Pinebrook Hills. They asked us to install two VELUX 14″ Sun Tunnels in a bathroom in the home.
The first step is to determine the locations of the two Sun Tunnels in the interior and cutting the holes in the ceiling. This home is a little unusual because it has been constructed using foam-backed roofing panels.
Up on the roof:
The location of the Sun Tunnels is transferred to the roof using a nail driven through the center of the hole from the interior. Then the hole is cut through the shingles and roof deck. A section of shingles around the hole is stripped and the flashing is caulked and installed. Then ice and water shield is applied to ensure a weatherproof installation and the shingles are replaced. A section of highly reflective tubing connects the flashing to the ceiling ring and an acrylic dome completes the installation.
