New roof—New skylight.
With a new roof being put on this residence in the Loomiller neighborhood of Longmont, CO, the owners made a wise decision to replace their outdated skylight, also. Expert Exteriors contacte us to handle the skylight replacement.

The existing skylight is larger than necessary to fit the existing curb. It probably replaced the original skylight on this 60 year old home. The reason for the larger size is to use a standard size (in stock) rather than a custom order, more expensive skylight. 2×2 lumber has been used to wrap the top of the original curb to fit the replacement.

We also chose to use a standard sized skylight to replace the existing acrylic dome, but replace the 2×2 with 2×6 lumber to wrap the entire existing curb. Much better support and weatherproofing with an insignificant cost increase! The entire curb is now wrapped with ice and water shield.

Flashing:
The engineered aluminum head and sill flashing provided by Velux provides a leak-proof connection between the flashing and skylight. And qualifies the entire installation for a ten year no leak warranty–a significant value for the owners.
