The acrylic dome skylight cluster has been leaking.
With water stains on the interior, we were prepared to see some structural damage once the old skylights were stripped from the curb. Fortunately, the damage was minimal and repairs simple.
Preparing the existing curb:
The existing curb is too narrow for our MAGS Bar system so we wrap the perimeter with 2″ x 2″ lumber to provide a 3″ base for the frame. With no existing center support, two doubled 2″ x 6″ lengths of lumber are added as rafters.
We have already measured the system for glass, so the next step is to install the precut base frame pieces and counter flashing. Ready for the glass!.
Original skylights are stripped down to the curb and wrapped. Perimeter is wrapped and rafters installed. Ready for glass.
Setting the glass and finishing up:
The three pieces of glass are quite large and heavy. It takes a coordinated team effort to move a piece of glass from the ground to a roof. Our specialists have a great deal of experience and this project was not particularly challenging.
One piece to go! The glass is held in place with compression bars. Beauty caps installed and finish caulking done the right way.
Beautiful results:
Besides the obvious aesthetics on the roof and the clear sky view from the interior, the lowE3 glass has superior thermal efficiency and transmits less noise than the original dome skylights.
